Have questions?
TL;DR: Alfa Laval P-Neutra — alkaline powder neutraliser designed to neutralise spent Alfa P-Scale acidic solution to pH 6-8 before disposal. Mandatory component of the Alfa Laval CIP cleaning procedure.
  • Application: P-Scale acid neutralisation after CIP cleaning
  • Form: powder (added to used P-Scale solution)
  • Target pH: 6-8 (safe for sewer discharge)
  • Used with: Alfa P-Scale only (SKU 3284000602)

Where P-Neutra is used

After Alfa P-Scale CIP cleaning, the spent acidic solution cannot be discharged to sewer directly — the pH is too low (2-4) and it contains dissolved calcium and inhibitor residues. P-Neutra is added gradually to the used P-Scale solution while circulating through the exchanger until pH reaches 6-8. During the reaction, insoluble salts form and are readily flushed with water. This two-stage process ensures safe disposal and a fully cleaned exchanger.

ProductAlfa P-Neutra (alkaline powder neutraliser)
PurposeNeutralising P-Scale acid after CIP procedure
Target pH6-8 (neutral, safe for sewer)
FormPowder (added gradually to spent P-Scale solution)
Used withAlfa P-Scale (SKU 3284000602)
Application methodCirculate via CIP unit until neutral pH
Procedure time1-2 h (depending on initial acid concentration)
Plate compatibilityStainless steel, titanium (lab-verified by Alfa Laval)
Gasket compatibilityEPDM, NBR — lab-verified
Disposal after neutralisationSanitary sewer (flush with water)
Professional note: add P-Neutra gradually and measure pH periodically (litmus paper or pH meter) — dumping the full quantity at once may overshoot into alkaline range, which is also non-compliant for sewer. When done, flush the exchanger with clean water for 15-30 min to remove all chemical traces.

When to choose P-Neutra

  • Alongside every Alfa P-Scale acid cleaning order (1:1 ratio)
  • CIP procedure after plate heat exchanger descaling
  • Whenever an exchanger is maintained by a professional HVAC service
  • Compatibility: all Alfa Laval plate heat exchangers with stainless / titanium plates

Frequently asked questions

Can P-Neutra be used as a standalone cleaner?

No. P-Neutra is only a neutralising agent. For inorganic scale (calcium carbonate), an acid cleaner (P-Scale) is required. For organic fouling — Alfa Laval offers a separate Alfa Descaler / Alfa Clean range.

How much P-Neutra is required?

Depends on P-Scale quantity used and final pH measurement. Typical ratio — ~1:1 by mass with P-Scale, but exact quantity is set dynamically by measuring pH.

PPE required?

The alkaline powder is skin and eye irritant. Goggles, gloves, and lab coat are required. In poorly ventilated area, may irritate respiratory tract.

How to measure pH?

Universal litmus strips (see Amegata SKU PND50-975-84 — pH 0-12 strips) or a digital pH meter. Recommended measurement every 15 min during the procedure.

Can the solution be reused?

No. The neutralised solution must be disposed of (sewer). A new CIP procedure requires a fresh P-Scale + P-Neutra pair.
