Where B180 is used

B180 is chosen for larger private pools 40–55 m³ (typical 4 × 10 m surface, 1.4–1.7 m depth) and small commercial installations — hotel SPA pools, sports club pools with elevated heating demand, kids' pools in larger family villas. The shell-and-tube geometry supports high pool-water flow (up to 15 m³/h) at moderate pressure drop — well suited to single-pump-and-filter loops.

Pool heat-up time — quick calculation

Exchanger capacity: P = Q × ΔT × 1.163 (kW). Pool heat-up time: τ = V × ρ × Cp × ΔT / P.

Example: 55 m³ pool, +5 °C rise, with B180 at ~46 kW (source 70 °C) → E = 55,000 × 4.186 × 5 = 1,151 MJ ≈ 320 kWh; τ ≈ 320 / 46 ≈ 7 h.

Designer note: B180 at 0.4 m² is the "sweet spot" for 40–55 m³ pools — the next model (B250, 0.6 m²) would be overkill, while B130 (0.2 m²) sits at the edge. Drain the pool side before winter. With a heat pump (55 °C), check the catalog table — B180 delivers ~26 kW at 50 °C source, good for maintenance mode.

Frequently asked questions

B130 or B180 for a 40 m³ pool?

Both fit, but for different situations. B130 (0.2 m²) — if the pool is always covered and source is 70+ °C. B180 (0.4 m²) — for a margin for faster heat-up, or with lower source T (heat pump 50–55 °C). In practice, B180 is more often chosen for 40+ m³ pools.

Suitable for Olympic-size pools?

No — Olympic pools (400+ m³) need Hexonic JAG plate or B1000 class exchangers. B180 targets the private / small commercial segment.

Compatible with salt pools?

No. Stainless steel is not compatible with salt electrolysis. The titanium equivalent — Hexonic TI500 (larger, but salt-resistant).

What boiler size is needed for B180 at full load?

For B180 to deliver 66 kW (peak at 90 °C source), the boiler needs at least 70 kW nominal and must sustain 90 °C supply at 4 m³/h. Real installations more often run at 40–50 kW.

Is a buffer tank needed with a heat pump?

Recommended, especially if the heat pump is smaller (10–15 kW) than pool losses. A 200–500 l buffer lets the pump run longer per cycle — fewer starts, longer compressor life.
