Where XB 12M-1 40 CoResist is used

This 40-plate brazed heat exchanger is designed for user branches in substations of multi-family and commercial buildings. Primary side from district heating network, secondary side for space heating or DHW production. The CoResist variant enables use in systems with aggressive (chlorides, ammonia) water, where standard copper brazing would be unsuitable.

Heat capacity — quick calculation

Formula: P = Q × ΔT × 1.163 (kW, Q m³/h, ΔT °C).

Example: heating mode (90/70 °C → 65/40 °C) at Q = 2.4 m³/h and ΔT ≈ 20 °C → P ≈ 55 kW.

Designer note: Before final XB 12M-1 40 CoResist selection use Danfoss HEXact sizing software — exact capacity depends on plate geometry, media properties and system load profile.

When to choose XB 12M-1 40 CoResist

  • Substation user branches with capacity demand 28-80 kW
  • DHW primary heat exchanger for multi-family systems (aggressive water)
  • When PED cat II certification is required for commercial buildings
  • CoResist variant — for regions with elevated chloride content in water

Frequently asked questions

How does XB 12L-2 CoResist differ from standard XB 12L-2 (with Cu brazing)?

CoResist uses stainless steel brazing filler (not copper) — more resistant to chlorides, ammonia and other aggressive compounds. Standard with Cu — cheaper, suitable for standard district heating water.

Is it suitable for potable water (DHW)?

Yes. Stainless steel plates and stainless steel brazing meet potable water system requirements (WRAS, DVGW, depending on country).

What maintenance is required?

Brazed gasket-free construction requires no periodic disassembly. Only CIP (Clean-in-Place) flushing every 3-5 years is recommended, if fouling signs appear.

Can glycol mixtures be used?

Yes, ethylene glycol or propylene glycol solutions up to 50%, with appropriate inhibitors. For DHW — only potable-grade fluids.

What are the PED requirements?

XB series complies with PED 2014/68/EU, category II (medium risk level) — allowing commercial use in Europe.
