Have questions?
TL;DR: Danfoss AMV 20 — standard 3-point electric actuator for larger control valves. Designed for district heating substation heating loops where higher thrust and longer stroke than AMV 10 are required.
  • Application: DN 20–50 control valve positioning in heating systems
  • Thrust: 450 N
  • Power / control signal: 230 V AC / 3-point
  • Running time / IP: 15 s/mm (10 mm stroke = ~150 s) / IP54

Where AMV 20 is used

AMV 20 fits medium-capacity heating loops — user branches of school, office, and industrial building substations with DN 25–50 control valves. The increased 450 N thrust and 10 mm stroke allow it to work with higher-Kvs valves where AMV 10 (300 N, 5 mm) is no longer sufficient. The standard 15 s/mm speed is adequate for heating loop temperature control on an outdoor compensation curve.

Designer note: AMV 20 differs from AMV 30 (082G3011) in one parameter — running time: AMV 20 = 15 s/mm (standard), AMV 30 = 3 s/mm (5× faster). Thrust (450 N) and stroke (10 mm) are identical. Choose AMV 30 when fast response is required — e.g., DHW temperature stabilisation via a plate heat exchanger, where slow response would cause overshoot. For heating loops with slow temperature changes, AMV 20 is sufficient.

When to choose AMV 20

  • DN 25–50 control valves in medium-capacity heating loops (~50–200 kW)
  • 3-way mixing valve control in higher-Kvs systems
  • When higher thrust than AMV 10 (300 N) is required, but standard speed is adequate
  • Zone heating control in schools, offices, public buildings
  • Compatibility: Danfoss VRB 2/VRB 3 (DN 15–50) and VRG 2/VRG 3 (DN 15–40) control valves; works with Danfoss ECL, Ouman EH/S203 and any 3-point-output controller

Frequently asked questions

How does AMV 20 differ from AMV 30?

Only in running time: AMV 20 = 15 s/mm (slow), AMV 30 = 3 s/mm (fast). Thrust (450 N), stroke (10 mm), power (230 V) and control (3-point) are identical. For heating — AMV 20 is enough. For DHW or fast-changing processes — AMV 30.

Does AMV 20 have a fail-safe function?

No. The spring-return variant is AMV 23. If automatic closing on power loss is required — choose AMV 23 or add a UPS.

Does AMV 20 support 0–10 V control?

No — only 3-point. The modulating 0–10 V equivalent is AME 20.

What are the allowed mounting positions?

Vertically above the valve or horizontally. Not head-down (risk of condensate ingress). Leave at least 100 mm free space above the actuator for service.

Are there any duty-cycle restrictions?

AMV series actuators are designed for continuous modulation in heating/cooling systems (S3-class duty cycle, standard for control loops). No extra pulse-frequency restrictions apply as long as the controller respects its own minimum pulse duration.
