TL;DR: Danfoss AMV 30 —
fast-acting 3-point electric actuator. Shares thrust and stroke with AMV 20, but responds 5× faster — designed for processes requiring rapid temperature stabilisation, especially domestic hot water (DHW).
- Application: fast positioning of DN 20–50 control valves in DHW and heating loops
- Thrust: 450 N
- Power / control signal: 230 V AC / 3-point
- Running time / IP: 3 s/mm (10 mm stroke = ~30 s) / IP54
Where AMV 30 is used
AMV 30 targets fast-changing processes where a standard 15 s/mm actuator would react too slowly, causing temperature swings. The classic case is domestic hot water (DHW) via a plate heat exchanger: when a tap opens, secondary flow changes abruptly, and the primary control valve must respond within seconds to prevent scalding or cold-water complaints. AMV 30 (3 s/mm) paired with a Danfoss ECL 210/310 controller delivers that response.

Designer note: AMV 30 has no fail-safe (spring-return) function. If the system requires automatic closing on power loss (e.g., ventilation heater frost protection or DHW overheat protection) — choose AMV 33 (082G3013). AMV 33 returns the stem to the closed position within ~15 s after power loss. Costs more, but adds the safety function.
When to choose AMV 30
- DHW temperature control via a plate heat exchanger (fast flow changes)
- DN 20–50 control valves where fast response is required
- Heating loops needing quick reaction (e.g., underfloor with variable flow)
- When the system will not tolerate oscillation from slow actuator response
- Compatibility: Danfoss VRB 2/VRB 3 (DN 15–50), VRG 2/VRG 3 (DN 15–40) and VS 2 series valves; works with Danfoss ECL 210/310, Ouman EH/S203 and any 3-point-output controller

Frequently asked questions
Why AMV 30 instead of AMV 20?
The only technical difference is response speed: AMV 30 covers the full 10 mm stroke in ~30 s, AMV 20 in ~150 s. Heating loops with slowly changing outdoor T are fine with AMV 20. DHW and processes with abrupt flow changes need the fast AMV 30.
Does AMV 30 have a fail-safe function?
No. The spring-return variant is AMV 33 (082G3013), also 3 s/mm, 450 N.
Does AMV 30 support 0–10 V?
No. The modulating (0–10 V) analogue is AME 30. AMV 30 supports 3-point only.
How to mount a higher-power actuator?
Vertically above the valve or horizontally. Not head-down. Leave at least 100 mm above the actuator. Check stem alignment via manual override before first energising.
What cable is required?
Standard 3-core cable 3×1.5 mm² (L1 "open" phase, L2 "close" phase, N common). For longer runs (>50 m) — 3×2.5 mm² to compensate voltage drop, especially if the cable shares the run with high-load consumers.
