M31A150 is the universal actuator in the Ouman family, suitable for both heating and DHW (domestic hot water) branches. The "A" letter in the model name denotes all-application use — which is what distinguishes it from M31C150, marked as heating-specific.

When to choose M31A150 vs M31C150?

The same generation of actuators — 300 N, 150 s, 6.5 mm, 3-point 24 V AC. The difference is positioning: M31A150 — universal (A = all) for heating and DHW; M31C150 — positioned as heating-specific (C = heating). In practice, if the project has only one branch or both branches need a single SKU for logistics, take M31A150. If following the exact Ouman configuration sheet, each branch gets its assigned version.

When is M31A150 not enough?

When the DHW branch has Δp above 3 bar or requires faster response (e.g. sudden DHW demand spikes in multi-family buildings). In that case, the better choice is Ouman M41A15 (higher force, 15 s running time). M31A150 with its 150 s response suits standard-size substations where PID control has no extreme requirements.

Can it connect to a Danfoss ECL controller?

Electrically — yes (3-point 24 V AC signal is standard). But the mechanical adapter is for Ouman VD-series valves, whereas Danfoss ECL projects typically use Danfoss VRB/VRG. If you stay in the Danfoss line, using a Danfoss AMV 20 is more practical. Substituting M31A150 into a Danfoss AMV 20 slot is a functional analogue, not a drop-in replacement.

Can it be mounted vertically on the ceiling (actuator hanging below)?

No — do not mount the actuator below the valve. Condensate can seep into the motor housing. IP 43 rating provides protection only against splashes from above. Mount the actuator vertically above the valve or horizontally (actuator axis parallel to the floor).

Does M31A150 have a safe-position return function?

No. Like other Ouman M31-series actuators, M31A150 has no spring return — on power loss the valve stays in its current position. If the project requires fail-safe (e.g. automatic DHW branch closure), choose a different actuator line with an "SR" marking (Belimo, Siemens SQS line).
