Where Ouman M41A15 is used

M41A15 is positioned as the Ouman "larger actuator" version — 10× faster than the M31 series (15 s vs 150 s) and with higher force (400 N vs 300 N). This maps to two typical applications:

  • DHW branch in multi-family buildings and hotels — where hot water demand fluctuates suddenly (morning peaks, spa zones) and the valve must reach the target position within 15-20 s.
  • When valve Δp remains high (close to the VD-series max operating pressure of 21.5 bar with a 400 N actuator) — a 300 N M31 actuator may fail to close tightly in such conditions.

Designer note: M41A15 is not always necessary — if DHW flow rates are stable (single-family home, smaller systems), M31A150 or M31C150 is fully sufficient and lower cost. Choose M41A15 when fast response is needed (sudden DHW peaks) or high working pressure applies (Δp above 3 bar). As a functional analogue — Danfoss AMV 30 (400 N, 3-point, faster response).

Frequently asked questions

When is it worth paying more for M41A15 vs the M31 series?

When at least one of the following applies: fast response on the DHW branch (15 s vs 150 s — sudden demand peaks in multi-family buildings), higher force (400 N vs 300 N — high Δp), or better control accuracy in dynamic systems. For residential substations, M31A150 is sufficient and significantly more economical.

Does M41A15 replace a Danfoss AMV 30?

As a functional analogue — yes (400 N, 3-point, 15 s class). Mechanically, the adapter must be verified against the specific valve: Ouman VD-series actuators cannot mount directly on a Danfoss VRB valve without an adapter. If the project uses Danfoss VRB, staying with AMV 30 is cleaner.

What mounting position is allowed?

Mount vertically above the valve or horizontally. Do not mount the actuator below the valve — condensate can seep into the motor housing. Ambient temperature 0 … +50 °C (lower than the M31 series' +60 °C — worth checking in hot substation corners).

Can the control cable be extended?

Yes, via a junction box with the correct cross-section (0.75-1.5 mm²), respecting 24 V AC voltage-drop limits. Since M41A15 draws more (~5 VA vs 0.7-1.4 VA on the M31 series), for longer cable extensions (over 30 m) check the total resistance drop.

Does M41A15 have a safety return function?

No — like other Ouman M-series actuators, M41A15 has no spring return. On power loss the actuator stays in its current position. If the project requires automatic return to the closed position (e.g. safety on the DHW branch), select another manufacturer's spring-return line (Belimo, Siemens SQS series).
